My therapeutic style draws from psychodynamic and somatic approaches, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), the Instinctual Trauma Response model (ITR), and the Polyvagal theory. I am a Certified Trauma Treatment Specialist (CTTS) through the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists. I am also certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is well-researched and recognized as an effective treatment for PTSD and other trauma and stress disorders. .
I have received additional training in EMDR variations, including models to address acute stress stabilization immediately following a critical event, as well as EMDR for ongoing or prolonged traumatic events, such as with chronic or terminal illness, first-responders, refugees, war, longterm disasters, or prolonged violence. Having competence with these models allows me to facilitate early response to individuals and groups following personal or community disasters.
I also highly value my experience working with those navigating the stress of gender and transitioning challenges.
I have found that healing comes from multiple sources and that trauma-resolution therapy can be a vital piece of that process. As a therapist, I seek to guide individuals through trauma processing on their own unique path and to find personal meaning in their post-traumatic growth.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Mental Health therapist specializing in reducing and resolving the effects of traumatic stress.
My professional journey began in 1999, helping survivors of domestic violence transition to safety. I was inspired to earn my Masters of Social Work from Temple University after working as a Bachelor's-level substance abuse counselor for five years, eventually acting as clinical supervisor of the pratice.
In that setting, I came to understand the role of truama in all levels of addiction:
as an adaptation to traumatic stress,
as an environment where traumas occur,
and as it's own truamatic threat for survival.
